Visiting your ancestors hometown may be rewarded with important information that is hiding in plain sight. The practice of many churches both today and years past was to errect a cornerstone, or an inscribed commemorative tablet or plaque with dates of its establishment and important names of members or leadership. This could include the names of the original pastors, ministers or founding board members. It came with a sense of pride and history that this information is presented at the entrance or hallway of a church. It is also important for future generations to read about the church's history and remember those who came before them. When a church is over 150 years old it has history and memories to be gleaned and recognized. If you should see your relatives name inscribed on a memorial plaque take great pride in this recognition of their achievements.
