Who is My Family!

You, as a descendant ... it is important to keep the family legacy alive.

Even though we celebrate Black History every day, emphasis has been placed more on February as the month of rececognition and celebration. As we give voice to our ancestors through the various activities, programs and displays, it is important to understand the need for continual family research. As we collect the family photos and assemble our family lineage from records and memories, keep in mind the various public databases, family trunks, boxes and basements from which we may find family members.

Also, think about rummaging through thift stores, estate sales, and contacting family members who may have had someone recently pass. Be in contact with those relatives .... talk to them about those who have passed on and share old photos. Be sensitive, but some family members may not see the need to keep old photos or documents. Be willing to be the caretaker of those memories if the surviving family is open to your offer.
