Many cultures enjoyed fine wine around the dinner table. Others enjoyed going to the back room to get a sip of the home made brew or special ‘juice’. And then there are the stills out in the back woods.
I came across an old email with a picture of this compact ‘juice’ box. Probably goes back to the 1930’s. It reminded me of those memories when the men from the neighborhood would come over and head to the backroom and shut the door.
And of course, it didn’t matter what our ancestors drunk as long as the children didn’t touch or taste. ‘Look’ maybe … but for everyone’s concern, just keep the kids out of the backroom.
Many Americans were satisfied drinking straight up moonshine whiskey or a distilled wood grain alcohol, while others created their own mixture such as peach wine or any other kind of fruit of the tree.
Do you remember the name of the spirits? It came with different slang names …. Moonshine, Hooch, White Lightning, White Mule, Bootleg, Corn Liquor, Home Brew, Rotgut, Stump Liquor, Booze, Juice … and we haven’t even got to homemade beers and rum.
