MAKING MY WAY OUT OF THE SOUTH

Heading North or West has to be better than where I am at. (Photo - Columbus Dispatch)

There was a time .. when black men left the South by walking, driving, hopping on trains to freedom and for a better life. When they reach their destination ... when they found work ... they sent for their families. Others left as well and some were never to be seen again. Listen to the stories that are told in your families bout how they planned their getaway and what they experienced on the other end.. Make sure these stories are written down and included in your family genealogy and family history.
